George Fox is a mid-sized university, offering both personal attention and a solid, Christ-centered education that integrates faith and intellect.

The university is located 23 miles from Portland, the state’s cultural and business center. Since its founding in 1891, George Fox has remained a vital part of the friendly town of Newberg (pop. 20,000). The university was founded and continues to be affiliated with the Evangelical Friends (Quaker), a church long known for its commitment to social justice.

George Fox is ranked by U.S. News & World Report as a top-tier regional university. The Templeton Foundation has named the university one of just 100 colleges or universities in the nation recognized for its commitment to encouraging character development.

About half of the university’s 3,200 students are in undergraduate programs. Highlights of the undergraduate programs:

  • Thirty-four majors including engineering, nursing, business, elementary education, biology, psychology, art, Christian ministries, writing and literature, music, and accounting.
  • Student: faculty ratio of 12:1, average class size of 20.
  • Incoming undergraduates receive a computer to use and keep upon graduation.
  • More than 75 percent of all four-year George Fox students participated in an overseas study or service experience.
  • NCAA Division III and Northwest Conference championship-winning athletic teams.
  • Medical school placement rate of 96 percent for premed program.
